On Wednesday, FC Barcelona secured their seventh consecutive victory in as many La Liga matches, extending their lead at the top of the Spanish championship with a 1-0 win against Getafe.
Polish striker Robert Lewandowski scored the only goal of the match in the first half (19th minute), despite multiple attempts on goal from teammates Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.
With a perfect record of victories, the Catalan club now holds 21 points, standing as the clear leader of the league, with a four-point lead over Real Madrid (2nd place, 17 points). On the other hand, Getafe remains stuck in the relegation zone (19th place, 4 points), still without a win this season.
The Real Madrid had closed the gap in the standings to just one point behind Barça after their 3-2 victory against Deportivo Alavés on Tuesday. However, the Blaugrana responded well to the pressure, extending their lead once again.
In their first match since the serious injury of German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, 25-year-old academy product Iñaki Peña started in goal and made a significant impact with a great save from Carles Pérez's header in the early minutes (8).
His counterpart at Getafe, David Soria, wasn't as fortunate. He jumped to catch a cross from Jules Koundé but failed to secure the ball, which slipped into the heart of the area. There, ‘Lewy’ struck to score his seventh goal of the season, maintaining his position as the top scorer in Spain.
